Making beautiful products out of complex data
I build complete products that transform complex workflows into intuitive user experiences. My platforms handle the complexity so your users don't have to.

About me
I get deep satisfaction from building complete products that will be used in the real world.
My favorite scenario is this: We have a system on our hands with complex rules and messy data. Maybe it's a legacy database, or 30,000 scanned pdfs, or the byzantine rules of a bi-cameral state legislature, or 70 million incomplete voting records. The task is to bring clarity and structure and normalization to our underlying data. Once that is done, I can design and build complete products that solve real problems.
I don't shy away from the messiness. I embrace it. Understanding and mastering the inherent complexity and repackaging it for your customers is where your business will add its greatest value.
I've had the privilege of working with government agencies, legislative professionals, educators, and healthcare providers—all dealing with incredibly complex workflows and data sets. My approach is simple: understand the user's world, respect their expertise, and build complete products that amplify their capabilities rather than getting in their way.
I am based in Massachusetts where I raise two amazing daughters with my wife. In my free time I kickbox, play the ukulele, and talk about web fundamentals and cutting edge technologies with some of my favorite tech creators, conference speakers, authors, and thought leaders on my youtube channel.

AI
I use coding agents as a pairing partner when it makes sense—for repetitive tasks, bouncing around ideas, and learning new technologies. I've learned to work with them, understanding both their strengths and limitations.
Rather than treating AI as magic, I've found it works best when I know what product I want to build and need help with the mechanics of getting there efficiently.
This moment is about exploring the possibilities and limitations of AI, particularly how to leverage the deterministic nature of computing alongside the non-deterministic nature of LLMs to build powerful, reliable systems.
Legislative Data Analysis — Understanding complex legislative data through summaries, transcription, and extracting tone to identify support and opposition positions.
Email Analysis — Using local NLP to analyze emails and extract elements like names, organizations, and other structured data from unstructured communications.
Predictive Workflows — Automation systems that monitor data changes and suggest to users what AI thinks they will do based on what they have done in the past.
Media
I sometimes make screencasts for my products, podcasts to talk about programming, videos to talk about tips and tricks, and record full conversations with hackers I want to learn from.
